Is a contract mandatory for assignment?
Yes. Assignment of economic copyright rights legally requires a written contract signed/sealed by both parties — and the contract is the core material for recordal.
Which rights can be assigned?
Economic rights — reproduction, distribution, online dissemination etc. — can be assigned in whole or part; moral rights like authorship cannot be assigned by law.
Valid without recordal?
Recordal is not a condition for the assignment to take effect — once the contract takes effect, the transfer is valid between the parties. But recordal creates an official public record of the rights change, reducing risks such as double-selling of the same right, so prompt recordal is recommended.
How long does it take?
After both parties' signed materials are submitted, official examination takes approx. 20-30 business days (subject to actual official examination); we track throughout.
